Most of this blog runs on Linux, so the Windows tag is the desktop half — five posts about the machine I actually sit in front of, and mostly about it doing something I did not ask for.

The two most useful are about running things quietly: a scheduled script on Windows flashes a console window every time it fires, which steals focus from whatever is fullscreen, and there are two ways round it depending on whether you are running a batch file or Python. The companion post does the opposite — running something automatically when a program exits, which Windows has no built-in notion of.

The rest is recovery and undo. Mail from a Thunderbird account that was removed while its files stayed on disk. OneNote 2016 uninstalled by Office 365 and replaced with the app version, and where Microsoft moved the installer. A TeamViewer session swallowing every keystroke because of where VMWare Horizon puts keyboard focus.
